Therapy Style

I adapt and tailor my treatment style to each individual’s needs and goals. At the core of my work is the therapeutic relationship I form with my clients. I value honest communication, mutual respect and a warm, empathetic environment. Research has shown that the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in the outcome of therapy so it’s important that we’re a good fit! For this reason I offer a free 15 min phone call before we start therapy to get to know each other a little bit.

As for my theoretical framework, I am primarily trained in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). CBT is a structured, shorter-term and present-oriented therapy, in with therapist and client work collaboratively. We set goals, and frequently review progress in order to see results as fast as possible.

I also draw from other theoretical frameworks such as:

  • Solution-oriented therapy

  • Schema therapy

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy

  • Mindfulness

It is important to me to work with evidence-based approaches, which means that I employ techniques that have been shown to be effective in clinical research. You can read more about the effectiveness of CBT here or about the effectiveness of online therapy here.

About Me

I grew up as an expat abroad. From the age of 4 until 18 I attended an international school in Basel, Switzerland. Growing up in a multi-cultural environment, at a school that had students from 60+ nationalities provided me with a deep understanding and respect for others’ perspectives, cultures, behaviours and values. After high school, I spent many years living both in the UK, as well as in the Netherlands.

Living an international life was dynamic and exciting, but not always easy. I often struggled with issues of identity and the concept of home. I have personal experience with universal expat issues such as cultural adjustment, culture shock, language barriers, long-distance relationships, homesickness, integrating and making new friends and having to say goodbye to them.

I can help you with similar issues by offering a warm, empathetic, open-minded and non-judgemental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. My motto is “come as you are” and “all of you is welcome”!
